Normally the game is every other saturday from noon to 8 but we will meet the first time this sunday 11/22/09.

The good news is that I will be using 95% core rules, so if you have the books then you know the rules. Beginners to expert players are welcome.

Style: 50% story/adventure, 50% hack and slash

Rulebooks allowed: ONLY the Player’s Handbook 1 and 2. Material from other materials is on a case by case basis. I don’t have unlimited time to read all the books and I like to keep things fair between players.

Setting: I run a custom standard medieval fantasy setting as I don’t feel like researching everything about Forgotten Realms or Eberron. In general, the world is an open world, meaning I try to not railroad you as you are capable of making your own decisions.

Location: Camarillo, every other Saturday, noon to 8pm. The home is non-smoking with no cats. Smoking outside is acceptable as long as you dispose of the litter correctly and don’t interrupt the game constantly. I’m also open to playing at other people’s houses as long as they don’t have cats, as I am highly allergic.

D&D Insider: I’m not paying for it so I don’t expect you to either.
What I expect from you: mostly to have fun but on a more serious note: bi-weekly commitment (we all have an outside life but you should show up more often than not), hygiene, maturity, over 20 years old, and respect for other players. No cheaters (yes I’ve actually had to kick someone out for this). This may seem absurd to have to put this here but you would be surprised who shows up at your door.

Information for those already familiar with D&D: Rule lawyers should be aware that although I don’t fudge dice (there is no reward without risk), I also don’t waste time trying to research ambiguous rules during combat (those discussions can take place in email or after the session, as no one wants to wait 10 minutes in the middle of combat to see what stacks with what). Powergamers should be aware that I try to keep things fair between players (your character shouldn’t be so powerful that it makes other characters useless) and allow people to play the style they want to play, even if it means a pacifist cleric or a barbarian who uses a club. If we have any beginners in the group expert players will be expected to help them, not overshadow them.

So you know a little bit about me. I have DM for a 3.5 group for about 2 years. I have played some online gaming useing rptools as a player. My typing skills suck, sorrey I did not grow up in a world of IM's and text therefor I would like to use a voice chat program to comunicate in real time. I do have several game books on FR and have read some FR novels. The game setting will start in Cormyr 1st lvl players that will quickly move up to 4th lvl. At the start it's more likly to be 75%combat, 25% rollplay till the game gets settled in. All mat. like prestige classes will be from core rule books and FR play books, so if you want to play a nija or robot this is not for you. Newbies are welcome as long as you are commited to the game. I'm willing to teach as well as learn. I played and DMed 1st edition AD&D back in the 80s. I left gaming just as 2nd edition was released (2nd edition wasn't why I left -- the timing just happened to work out that way). I just started playing D&D agin in the past year. In that time I have played a few sessions of 4th edition and I have been in a 3.5 group for a few months.

As a DM I like to keep things relatively simple, so due to this reason and the fact that I would be relearning how to DM I plan to limit the options available to players. The theme of the campaign would be another reason to limit options. As I (and the group) get more comfortable with the system then I would probably open thing up a little more (as long as it fit thematically in the campaign and setting).

My idea is to do a 4e version of Dragonlance. This would be a complete reset and reimaging with the PCs taking the place of the Heroes of the Lance (i.e. Caramon, Tanis, etc.) at the onset of the War of the Lance. Since there is no offical 4e Dragonlance stuff it would be a home brewed setting using materials from previous editions. I DMed the original Dragonlance modules in th mid-80s but I am not a Dragonlance purist. Hence I will change things to fit my vision of Dragonlance. I would hope that my reimaging of the saga would make it new and fresh even for the most knowledgable fans of Dragonlance.
