In combat I will track your hitpoints and status effects but I'd like you to please do the same in your mini-stats.

I’d like those of you who haven’t already, to write a wish list of magic items that your character would like ranging from levels 1 to 7 (don’t worry if a couple of levels are blank) and put it on your character sheet.

When the group receives treasure; nine times out of ten, it’s going to be up to the party to split it among themselves.

Monster statistics will be posted in the DM’s initiative as the party discovers them, i.e. by hitting a certain defence or a monster knowledge check.

If a spoiler block is labelled for another character, please try not to read it. If one character has certain information, it’s up to him or her to reveal it IC.

If you do not post for 2 days, and we are in a skill challenge or combat encounter, I will post for you. I will only use At-Will Powers.

If you know you are going to be unable to post for more than 2 days, please let me know.

During skill challenges I will be using the homebrewed Obsidian system;

Skill Challenge Rules

 During each segment:
1) Each player describes an action that his character is doing, whether it’s tumbling past a guard or talking with a duke.
2) The DM and the player work together to decide the right skill check for the action. In general, a player uses a skill that fits the challenge type (see Challenge Types) though the DM is the final judge whether a certain skill can be used.
3) If the player gives a particularly good description or role‐plays well, the DM can give him a +2 to the skill check.
4) All players roll their skill checks versus the DC of the challenge. The DM counts all the successes that are made.
5) Steps 1‐4 are repeated for the other segments of the challenge. The DM totals up all of the successes made, and then determines whether the party failed, obtained victory, or only obtained partial victory.

PLAYER NOTE: In the Obsidian system, you can take actions that directly affect the challenge, or that simply help your teammates. Both are considered equally useful to the challenge. Also keep in mind that you won’t always get to use your best skills, a social character might not have good skills for a physical challenge for example. That’s okay, role‐play your actions and do your best while one of your team mates uses his big skills. In the next challenge it will be your turn to shine.

Player Options:

While engaged in a skill challenge, players can use the following:
Bold Recovery: A player may spend an action point to reroll a skill check they have made, before they might know if the roll was a success or failure. The player must take the result of the reroll.
Primary Skill: For most challenges, the DM assigns one or two skills as the centre point of the challenge. Players using that skill receive a +2 to their skill checks. Example: In a negotiation with a Duke, diplomacy would be the primary skill. In a scene where the party sneaks into an orc camp, stealth would be the primary skill. If the players were researching a secret from ancient arcane texts, arcana would be the primary.
Unburdened: You may spend one healing surge and choose a skill that has an armour check penalty (such as endurance). For the rest of the skill challenge, you may ignore the armour check penalty for that skill. You may spend additional surges to select more skills.

Challenge Types:

Every Skill Challenge has a type chosen by the DM: mental, physical, or social. The type determines what kinds of skills are generally appropriate to the challenge, as well as the consequences of success and failure.

Mental
A Mental challenge lets the players using their minds and their senses to gain clues and to find their way around the world. DMs can use Mental Challenges to describe large scales of scenery and give players a chance to work out clues to obtain victory.
Examples: Finding your way through an old forest, determining the secret entrance to the underground city, solving the puzzle of El‐Karad, or finding the last ingredient for a ritual in an old library are examples of a Mental Challenge.

Standard skills for a mental challenge include:
Arcana (Int) Dungeoneering (Wis) Heal (Wis)* History (Int) Insight (Wis) Nature (Wis) Perception (Wis) Religion (Int) Social (cha)** Streetwise (Cha)***

*When dealing with anatomy or medical insights.
**Social skills can be useful to gain clues when other people are near the challenge site, such as using diplomacy to acquire help from the head librarian. Generally allow this only once per challenge per person.
***For navigating urban terrain or gaining information on the street.

Physical
A physical challenge often is the most versatile of challenges. It can include subtle stealth or outrageous stunts. Players are encouraged to describe their actions in detail.
Examples: Scaling a great cliff, sneaking past a group of guards, and crossing a raging river are good physical challenges.

Standard skills for a Physical Challenge include:
Acrobatics (Dex) Athletics (Str) Endurance (Con) Heal (Wis) Stealth (Dex) Thievery (Dex) Social (cha)* Knowledge (int or wis)**

*Social skills can sometimes be useful in physical challenges against other creatures. Using bluff to throw off a group of guards as you make your escape is a good example. Generally only allow this once per challenge per player.
**Knowledge skills can sometimes be useful in physical challenges that involve certain environments. Using nature in a chase scene that involves the jungle is one example. Generally only allow this once per challenge per player.

Social
A social challenge generally involves talking and a large amount of role‐playing. Players are encouraged to use eloquent words, bold statements, and outright lies to win the day.
Example: A negotiation with the Duke, talking your way past the guards, and convincing an old hero to take up the cause once again are examples of social challenges.

Standard Skills for a social challenge include:
Bluff (cha) Diplomacy(cha) Insight (wis) Intimidate (cha) Streetwise (cha) Knowledges * (int or wis)

*In some cases, some knowledge skills can be useful if they are particularly relevant to the challenge. Example: Using religion in a social challenge that involves a priest. Generally only allowed once per player per challenge.

We will be using Mal Malenkirk’s combat rules;

Combat Rules

1 - I roll all initiatives. Waiting two days before everyone has had the chance to roll theirs is a waste of time.

2 - I roll a single initiative for my bad guys and play them all in the same turn. It loses some of the tabletop experience but it plays a lot faster than individual initiative.

3 - If you haven't posted your PC's action in two days, I usually run your PC at some point late in the third day of inactivity. Warn me in advance if you don't believe you can post for more than two days.

And the biggest...

4 - I don't care in what initiative order you post; your action takes place at exactly the moment you post and as long as you only act once per round, it's all good.

The initiative in practice is only relevant once; the very first round.

Let's say initiative is:

Mesa 22
Matlal 17
BAD GUYS 16
Tor 12
Montroya 9
Andrec 8
Jarel Karn 5

That means Mesa and Matlal get to act before the BGs. I don't care in what order! If Matlal log in the thread before Mesa, don't wait, act first!

Once they have both acted, I play all of the Bad Guys.

Then everyone act, in whatever order.

It is possible that Mesa and Matlal will log on the thread before Tor, Montroya, Andrec and Jarel Karn have all acted. It doesn't matter, they can act! Once all 6 of PCs have acted (and acted only once, of course!), I run bad guys and then it's once more your turn. That simple.

I repeat; your actions take place when you post. Should you want to delay, then simply wait for the others to post.

It is very common when you play that way for a player to log last in a turn and then be the first to log back after I have updated the fight and played the BGs. This leads to a PC acting almost back to back. It matters little; in the end he still has acted only once in either round.

This saves a lot of time especially because most players can't log on the thread thrice a day to see if it's their turn yet. If you log on at any time after I have run the BGs turn you are free to post without waiting for your buddies to act in order.

Two frequent rules issues arise from this practice:

1 - What about effects that last 'until the end of PC's X turn'?

Often a leader will grant a bonus to someone else 'until the end of the leader's turn'. This will usually be interpreted as 'Until the end of the target's turn' instead. Good old common sense. The target doesn't lose the bonus if the leader acts before him and doesn't gain TWO turns of using the bonus if he manages to act twice before the leader acts again.

2 - What about PCs who purposefully delay taking their turn in order to give a chance to their allies to grant them a free save?

Ongoing damage and others conditions effect occurs at the beggining of your turn. If you know someone might grant you a free save (leaders can often do that) before you act, it may save you damage or avoid a stun effect to purposefully delay taking your turn, giving a chance for the other PCs to help you... That's cool. I don't mind. It just increases the value of team work which is a good thing.
I just can't stand the thought of waiting till Next April or whenever, a Psion is what I really want to play.

So I'm submitting a request that I be allowed to use the debut content to create a psion character at this time instead of waiting, consider this the same as a request to play 3rd party material.

I will naturallly edit my character to match the final content the moment the book comes out just the same as if it were erratta...

Let me just though a final personal word in here...

Please?

If these checks result in information (i.e.: there are arrow holes in the walls of this corridor, that dragon has one eye open, etc...), I will reveal the information in a spoiler specifically addressed to one or more characters. If you are not one of the intended characters, please do not read these spoilers. The character, however, is welcome to, in character, reveal the contents of the spoiler to the others. I'm not going to police this or anything, but the story goes more like a story, when it's done this way. Please feel free to get into your character with the information you have (or don’t have).

If the passive check results in a turn of events (i.e.: a trap springing, a monster gaining surprise, failure to realize that the guy was lying all the time) the passive roll will be posted at the time that the event happens.

Time's Up!: I will give players 48 hours to post, at the end of which time I reserve the right to RP the player's character on his behalf. I will use the most appropriate actions and At-Will powers only.

(this is rule created by Velmont, used by HM, strict adherence to which ensures a good game pace)

Exceptions: If you will be out for a long time and unable to post, please let the party know and assign responsibility to either myself or another, willing player for RPing your character, or I can write in a scenario that takes you out of the picture until your return (The former is preferred).

In a nutshell:

Players roll initiative individually, bad guys roll on initiative roll

Players with higher init than bad guys go first

then all the bad guys go

Then all the players go. From this point, we alternate players vs bad guys

Good guy turns happen in first post - first acted order.

Illegal post-overs will be resolved in that round

Legal post-overs stand even if each didn't know the other was posting.

Treasure: Keep a wish list on your character sheet up to date with what you would like, and I’ll try to accommodate within reason. There are some quest related loot items that will not divide evenly, and it will be up to the players to divvy up at the end. Myself or the judge will step in if the players can't agree.

Die Rolling: Roll your dice on Invisible Castle. If invisible castle is down (and it is down a lot), try Dice Room using your character name and the name of this adventure ("Lord Byron's Economic Woes") as the room name. In either case highlight the die roll in your post and use the 'Insert Link' button to post a link to your die rolls.

Out of Character Content: Post out of character content (i.e.: complaints, tactics, mechanics, etc...) in a spoiler with the letters 'OOC' in the title.

L4W has no "Life" deity according to the wiki. Death, undeath, ressurection are all covered, but no one covers life. Life seems like a important enough domain that it should be in the hands of one of the 12 gods, rather than a demi-god. Since Apoli is essentially the "Dauntonized" Pelor of the PHB, he seems to be the best fit.

Therefore, I propose to add Life to the domains of Apoli/Phoebus.

After the spell is cast the man smiles and says "There, we should be all set. So you all seem to have rather unique talents and I'm quite confident in the outcome of this expedition, oh but wait yes I've gotten ahead of myself. I represent a certain group who have authorized me to contract a group of adventurer's who are independent from the group to undertake this mission. I'm not sure if you've heard the latest news in the Screamer, but despite the ridiculous claims of that rag there is always an element of truth to it. A piece of the heavens has indeed crashed down here on our fair island and it's had all sorts of wild effects that we are just beginning to understand. We've divined that a certain item was uncovered by the crash of this meteor. We've long searched for the tomb of a sorcerer who specialized in harnessing the magic of the earth. There is an item that we require from this location, it is a staff that has the ability to add the power of the earth to its wielder. I am authorized to give a reward of 150 gold crowns for each of you if you return it to me. So what say you?" Ezren long-windedly says.

Shuman walks out of the tavern, followed closely by the mercenary band he has hired. The bulky sorceres, the chatty bugbear, the massive goliath, the prideful jadeite, and the confident shifter follow the eccentric man down the streets of the city. The sturdy group keeps on foot, until they reach the gates, where a strange wagon pulled by two strange beasts was waiting for them. Shuman stops in his place, and turns to examine each of you. A worry face he shows when looking at Torqua, Kavac and Vardaal. "I'm afraid your size wont allow us to travel in this small carriage. Although, perhaps you wont mind riding on the roof of the wagon?" he asks, politely, but not really asking; he boards the vehicle, and motions Frost and Myoko to follow him, while he points up to the gargantuan trio before shutting the door.
The first to climb is the bugbear. He nimbly gets on the roof, and helps Kavac to lift Torqua. It's not an easy task, even for the tough warriors, but finnally, the sorceress is accommodated in her place.
Kavac places a foot on the wheel and then loads himself on the roof of the wagon, making it creak under his weight.
The overloaded wagon started, then, his slow peaced march.
The warlord and the fighter found themselves in a quite confortable transport, with nice cushions, good decoration and delightful smell. Shuman remains silent, unless someone prompts a question.
The three on the roof can see the shifting landscape as the wagon travels far from the city.
Driving from the main road, the group takes a detour to the right, to a small dirt path, that flows among the scattered trees of a nearby forest. As the road continues, the trees' density gets thicker, and the underbrush begins to grow more abundantly.
Slowly, the sun descends on the horizon, and the lights dim, until the surroundings turn pitch dark, in a moonless night.
With a tired gesture, Shuman claps his hands, and a set a pair of magical lights on the side of the wagon. The now visible forest is quite creepy: twisted branches loom over the wagon, twisting around the sorceress black hair from time to time. Vardaal enjoys himself, scratching his head with them.
From within the wagon, the pair can see the wide trunks of the seemingly old trees, passing one after another, in a boring monotony, just to get surprised by a flashing pair of eyes, shooting from the darkness.
After two hours from the sun set, the wagon stops.
From the top, Vadraal, Kavac and Torqua can see the rider jumping down, and opening the side door. Shuman steps out followed by the other two.
The ambassador gestures the trio to get down, and after a briefe (but not troublesome) moment, the five adventurers are stand in front of the wizard.
"Well, I'll travel no further with you I'm afraid. There is a portal a few minutes walking away from here. You must go through the forest. Once you step through the portal there will be a receiving party waiting for you on the other side. For now, fare you well my friends, may luck smile upon you." With that, the eldery man returns to the carriage, and the driver jumps back on, and speed off.
With nothing to say, the group walks into the forest, which seems quite peaceful now. All seems worse when you are sitting on the roof of a moving wagon.
After a few minutes of walk through the woods, our adventurers find the portal. It seems odd that a portal to the blazing sands was hidden in a swampy forest, but with the objectives clear in their mind, the group steps through it. Unfortunately, the ratberry pie is lost in the process, due to a planetary confulx that creates an temporal anomaly. Torqua explains later, that instead of the pie, one of them could have been torn inside out, but that doesn't seem to lift the spirit of the now sad bugbear.
With the pie-exploding issue, the group doesn't notice the place that the have been teleported to. As they move their eyes from Vardaal's destroyed pie, they find themselves in some sort of cave, of sandy brown walls. There are several inscriptions in a strange language, carved in the stone, and the place seems to be well cared. The place is illuminated by torches placed on wall supports, and the group quickly fins their way to the entrance following them.
As they step out, a man in robe much like Shuman's greets them.
"Ah! Finaly. I take that you come sent by Shuman, yes? My name is Ladham, visir of Asamadar." the man announces himself, waiting for your replies. He is evidently old, and the feather in his "fancy hat" is bigger and more ornamented. He is well guarded by four armed men, that seems to be some sort of bodyguards.

Looking over the Assassin feats, abilities and powers, I noticed this feat. I have an issue with this feat, but this may spring from a misconception on my part.

When an Assassin uses his Assassin's Shroud power on an enemy, is the enemy aware of the shroud in the first place? Does it state this anywhere? I have looked all throughout the Assassin articles and can't find a mention of this anywhere. Is there a PHB entry somewhere that says all effects placed on an enemy is automatically known by them?

If there is no mention of this, then what is the point of the Hidden Insight feat? The fact that this feat exists tells me that WOTC is of the mind-frame that effects are automatically known, but is this actually written somewhere?

I'll be a-checking on your character sheets, and maybe make some edits to help the process.
